Farewell
Glass (displayed in a metal stand)
In this piece that sense of saying goodbye, possibly forever, of loss, as loved ones walk away to experience new beginnings or venture into a new world, is realised through a change in graduation of colour, shape, size, light and transparency.
The triptych consists of three individual glass panels each of which was formed by full fusing two carefully selected glass sheets of different thickness and opacity which when combined gives the desired increase in transparency. The symbolic simple figure was created using powdered glass frit before being placed in the kiln for a second firing. The diminishing size and strength of colour denotes the figure moving further away both in distance and in memory.
