My painting describes the Mayflower outbound to a new world. It is early morning with an oily orange sky which warns of strengthening winds and a steepening sea. The breaking wave on the starboard quarter threatens the small ship in a big sea. What is the outcome? We can only begin to imagine the drama and danger to life in a big ocean. I draw my inspiration from Turner – who else?
