As part of my Postgraduate Research project, I am currently exploring with concepts of my transnational identity. As an immigrant from South Africa, the past ten years have remarkably shaped my experiences to construct my personal narrative. My work therefore considers the plurality of my narrative; how the past and present intertwines to create a sense of belonging between two countries, homes and cultures. The overlaying of old family photographs and photos I have taken around Southampton reflect my personal journey of leaving behind my place of origin to find a new place to call home – a place where family narratives, photographs and memories keep me connected to the past, even as I continue to build an independent life in the present.
