Each year the sound of swifts screeching high in the sky above my Shirley home heralds the arrival of summer. I always feel a sense of wonder and admiration at the remarkable journey undertaken by these annual visitors and relief that they have arrived safely, against the odds, once again.

Here I have used fabric shapes, colour and stitched lines to represent elements of that incredible journey over land and sea.
