Landscape with sea-ornament

On a window sill by the sea is an imagined ornament. No ordinary ornament, this: it is a columnar record of recent waves lapping the shore. Setting off on its journey, the distant ship on the horizon has cast a wake that has just come ashore and mingled with the sea’s rhythm on the ornament.  Every journey casts a wake in history: human stories become entangled with the grand old cycles of time and tide and wheeling millennia.
