Visitor Information

To help everyone enjoy their visit, we have updated our COVID-19 guidance:

Please note we strongly recommend wear face coverings in our venues to help keep everyone safe.

Our one-way system is still in place for social distancing, so please do give each other plenty of space in the gallery.

There are plenty of hand sanitisers around the gallery for visitors to use and we’ll be continuing our increased cleaning regime.

We are doing everything we can to remain fully open during this time. We might, on occasion need to close parts of the gallery due to staff shortages and as we react to the current COVID-19 climate. Please bear with us, your safety is our priority whilst in our venues.

Opening Times

Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm (Last entry 2.45pm), Saturday 10am – 5pm (Last entry 4.45pm). Closed Sundays

Disabled Access

Wheelchair access is available from the street to the ground floor gallery foyer, which leads to a lift to the exhibition space on the first floor. Access can also be arranged for mobility scooters, please call the gallery in advance for more information on 023 8083 4536. Toilets, including disabled facilities, are situated on the ground floor in the Gallery Foyer. Find out more information on accessibility here.

Photography

Photography in the galleries is allowed for personal, non-commercial purposes only. It is the visitor’s responsibility to ensure no copyright is infringed. The use of flash and tripods is prohibited. Some exhibitions may have copyright restrictions and we will inform you if photography is not permitted.

Please note, we respectfully ask that rucksacks be carried by your side while visiting the gallery to avoid damage to the items in the collection.

On Foot
Southampton City Art Gallery is situated on Commercial Road, on the northern end of the Civic Centre the entrance faces the park.

By Road
Directions from the M3: Drive from M3 to Hampshire. Take exit 14 from M3 > Take A33 to A3024 in Southampton > At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Bassett Ave/A33 > Continue to follow A33 Go through 1 roundabout > At the roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Brunswick Pl/A3024 > Continue to follow A3024 > Take the first left into Commercial Road >Southampton City Art Gallery is on your right opposite the park. The Civic Centre Clock Tower is a good reference point as the gallery entrance is part of the same building.

Directions from M27: Take exit 5 from M27 > Take A335 to A3024 in Southampton > At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Stoneham Way/A335 > Continue to follow A335 > Continue onto Dorset St/A33 > At the roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Brunswick Pl/A3024 > Take the first left into Commercial Road >Southampton City Art Gallery is on your right opposite the park. The Civic Centre Clock Tower is a good reference point as the gallery entrance is part of the same building.

Parking
There are a number of city car parks within easy walking distance. Find out more.

By Train
The gallery is only 5 minutes walk from Southampton Central Station. Find out more about train times and buy tickets from South West Trains.

By Air
Southampton Airport is nearby, approximately 10 minutes by train or 20 minutes by taxi.

By Bus
The gallery is situated on the main bus routes with services provided by all operators which stop on Havelock Road and Commercial Road. For more information and routes please visit the public transport page.

By Bicycle
Bicycle racks are located outside the gallery on Commercial Road.

By Ferry
The Hythe and Isle of Wight Ferry connections are located within approximately a 10 minute drive or 30 minute walk from Southampton Art Gallery. For more information please visit Red Funnel Ferry or Hythe Ferry
