From David Bomberg to Paula Rego: The London Group in Southampton
-
The London Group took the art world by storm at the opening of its first exhibition in 1914. David Bomberg, Walter Sickert and Henri Gaudier-Brzeska were part of the founding group, whose principal aim was to show work by women and émigré artists who were shut out by the establishment of the time. Throughout modern British art history The London Group has championed the work of emerging artists bringing to the forefront great talents from Nina Hamnett to Henry Moore to L.S. Lowry.
This landmark exhibition showcases Southampton City Art Gallery’s vast collection of historical London Group artworks, displayed alongside contemporary works by its current members including Paula Rego.
