This photograph is part of a larger body of work in progress looking at the current and historic connections between Southampton and Venice. It is one of a series of photographs taken in both locations, depicting a 700 meter hand-spun ball of red wool representing the 700 year link between the two cities which was established via the wool trade. Here the ball of wool is depicted under one of the arches in the city wall on Western Esplanade.
