Kashmira’s Journey

Kashmira’s Journey is a photograph of a sari which belongs to an Indian lady born in Kenya, who fled from there after independence in the 60s. This one of the few saris she brought with her. The image captures a fleeting moment in her story of a journey from one country to another.

Judges Comments:

“This is a beautifully creative interpretation of the brief. The flowing green silk of the Sari immediately allows the viewer to imagine the ocean and horizons beyond. Southampton’s strong multicultural heritage is represented by the traditional south Asian garment and the journey it has taken. We particularly like this photograph for its simplicity; this allows the viewer to contemplate the brief and connect with one’s own ideas of human migration”.
