Postcards from Inside Southampton

To coincide with Heritage Open Days, we are excited to announce an art competition that will be hosted by Southampton City Art Gallery in collaboration with The Lord Mayor of Southampton. Artists are invited to create postcard-sized works of art celebrating the interiors of Southampton’s historic and listed buildings.

There are over 300 listed buildings and structures in Southampton including museums, hotels, restaurants, churches, pubs, and even homes. Many people may be familiar with some of these buildings from their recognisable exteriors, but through this competition we are encouraging you to step inside and look a little closer.

Through painting, drawing and photography, artists are encouraged to creatively capture and draw inspiration from the interiors of Southampton’s unique heritage buildings.

100 of these artworks will be selected to go on display at Southampton City Art Gallery between 3 April – 30 May 2027.

The competition will be open from the start of Heritage Open Days on 12 September and run until 31 January.
