Spencer Gore (1878-1914)
Gore shared Sickert's interest in the music hall and humble domestic interiors but he also enjoyed painting landscapes and travelled into the country each summer. This shows the view from Gore's mother's house in Hertfordshire where he stayed in the summers of 1908 and 1909.
His landscape paintings reveal the influences on his developing style. The pointillist dabs of colour in this earlier work owe more to the Impressionism of his friend and fellow Camden Town artist Lucien Pissarro. Later landscapes from Letchworth and Brighton have a strong emphasis on the shapes and flat colour of Gauguin and Cezanne.
